Scale Nitto 727
Many
hours of work later, it's done. The stabilizers were separated at
the center so I could attach the top of the fin before painting the
fuselage.
A
steel pin was inserted through the fin to mount the stabilizers after
all painting and decalling was complete. The base color was three
coats
of
Model Master flat white, followed by one thin coat of Testor's square
bottle gloss white. Several days were allowed to pass between
coats
which gave a dense hard glossy white finish. A lot of time was
required to fair in the windscreen, a kit part. I sent a Corel
Draw file
to Mike Vyukil of Vintage Flyer Decals and he cut vinyl masks for the
windows and windscreen, they worked very well. The leading edges
of the flying surfaces are done with Alclad Polished Aluminum, as are the inlets, although the center inlet was touched up with Model Master
Chrome
after decalling. The blade antennae are cut from photoetch
scraps. The decals were drawn in Corel Draw from photos.
The
overall scheme is to the order of Freddie Guzman, who I built the model
for, and is a composite of the several schemes Mexicana
had
on their 727's. The decals were printed on a Dell 1250c LED
technology laser printer. A final sealing clear coat of Future
was applied.
