Albert Lewis and John Gillan Mark I Hurricanes

  Squadron leader John Gillan flew this airplane from Turnhouse to Northolt at an average speed of 400 mph in 1938, earning the nickname
"Downwind Gillan", but the flight made good press at the time.  111 Squadron was the first to fly the Hurricane, getting them in December, 1937.
