With a Tamiya 190A-3. The Fw 190 V-1 was powered by the BMW 139, an
engine under development that ultimately failed. By itself it had
overheating issues, and the ducted spinner was not effective, being
installed for
only the first test flight which was conducted by Hans Sanders. Due
to the cockpit being positioned so far forward, an attempt by Kurt Tank to
give the pilot the best possible vision, the rudder pedals were right
up against the firewall and the temperatures on the test flight reached 50
degrees centigrade at that location. The BMW 139 was replaced by the
also new but much more successful BMW 801 on the 8th aircraft.
. The cockpit was moved back to balance the heavier engine.
The wings and horizontal tailplanes were increased in area to bring the
airplane's flying qualities back to where they were on the lower weight Fw
190 V-1.
