The Hasegawa dump truck. This is a very early Hasegawa kit and
though accurate in overall shape it shows its age. Still, it is a
good representation of a dump truck in 1/72 scale.
I had to modify the frame by shortening it aft of the rear axle and the
lift mechanism was also modified by making a socket under the dump body
and inserting a pin in the front of
the lift cylinder. A pin was also installed in the back of the dump
body that hooks into a hole in the rear frame. This allows me to
pose the dump body in the up or down
positions. The real dump trucks of this age usually used the
cylinder to rotate a fixture under the dump body that had links up to the
body that pushed the body up, giving a better
mechanical advantage so a smaller cylinder and less powerful hydraulic
system could lift the load. Modern dump trucks use multiple stage
rams that are mounted on the
front of the dump body and lift straight up.
