To make the elevator removable, the end
bays were removed and attached to the stabilizer. Center marks were
drawn on the elevator ends in line with the axis of the centerline 3/16
carbon fiber joiner.
1/8 ply keepers were made to provide for
the center elevator hinge. For a permanent attachment they can be
glued, however later photos will show a removable option. After assembly
blocks will be placed behind the elevator spar to prevent forward movement
of the carbon fiber joiner.
3/32 brass tubes were inserted in holes
drilled on the hinge centerline marks. 1/16 music wire pins were cut
to length, and on the left side a fine wire
was soldered
on to allow removal of the pin from the
elevator.
A balsa stop prevents the 1/16 music wire from coming out of the
tube in the stabilizer. The fine wire is flexible enough to keep
misalignment from preventing movement of the 1/16 wire pin.
