Henry Struck's 1937 Benny Boxcar in 108 inch span
Bevel the lower side of the upper spar at
the tip as shown.
Assembly of the left outer wing
panel. The root end of the spars rest against a square and the .402
blocks are beneath the lower spar. All the ribs are installed as
well as the balsa tip spar.
The leading and trailing edges are
installed. Do not join the tip parts flat on the plan, that
will void the warranty. Next the tip parts are installed, starting
with the front section, then the aft section, and finally the
middle section. The ribs will align the front section and the
aft section, and the top spar and the end of the front and back sections
will align the middle section. Don't worry, a little sanding will fix
it all up just fine.
Assembly of the outer wing panel joiners. The joiner blocks are
inserted between the spars with paper on top to give a little extra
clearance. The spar ends are tack glued to the ribs with
the spars held against the joiner blocks. The 5/32 brass tubing and
the 1/8 music wire are in place to insure wing alignment.
