Meeting
The SAM51 monthly meeting will be at Eut’s place on Thursday, June 27, AD 2013, and as usual the 7 PM time
The May 2013 Meeting Minutes - By Bob Grice

1.  Our   SAM 51 May 2013 AD was held at Eut,s home in Carmichael, CA.

2.  Minutes of the April meeting was approved by all and $642.00 remains in Frank’s cigar box.

3.  Frank Whalen brought a new ½ A Dallaire to show. Beautiful job Frank!

4.   There was a lengthy discussion of our fun-fly held at the Woodland/Davis Aeromodeler’s field near Davis. It was a lively remembrance of a fun day of excellent weather and good flying. Thanks,   Doug for setting up the event and the groceries!   Bill Copeland of SAM 21 drove up for the event.
Bob English cracked up his rebuilt ½ A Lanzo Airborne due to wing spar joiner failure. The two piece wing folded at considerable altitude resulting in considerable damage.
A 23 min. + flight was achieved by Bob Grice with his Miss Philly VI with a 4 min. engine run. Cheers for the great lift at nearly OOS height.
John Eaton tried his new ½ A Commando that flies nicely. He has plans and a laser cut short kit for this beauty available. John also flew one of the Eut Tileston models of Weather’s Westerner; a model that he acquired from Eut many years ago. This 25+ year old airplane is restored and floats beautifully under O. S. 60 open rocker power.
Eut used his camera plane to provide later pictures to us.

John Pond and memories of him was a lively discussion with plenty of laughs.

Friday, June 21st  is the fun fly date at the Schmidt Ranch. Ya’ll come.

Milt Mitchell is the cookie volunteer for the June meeting.

Date and place of the July meeting TBA.

By   Bob G. (alternate sometimes recorder)

Model of the Month – Lanzo's Record Breaker is what he was flying in '38.  It is a parasol with a wing  very similar to his Bomber design.  Like all normal SAMers, I fly a Bomber, but the Record Breaker might be more interesting.  If my arthritis gets better, I'll add it to the list.  The crummy copies are from a "screen shot" and not so good.  The MAN DVD has better so if you are yet to build a Bomber, gimme a shout and we'll provide better.  Reduced plan at bottom of this page.

Gossip -  The newsletter is late yet again because I waited until after the Schmidt Ranch fun fly to report.  Despite Miriam being the prefect host, not much to report.  Only 8 flyers and Miriam were there.  Bill Copeland and 3 other of that bunch (I'm not sure of their names) were there.  They flew a beautiful 15' ws Boehle Giant.  Bob English flew his beauties a couple of times.  Jim Saare and I, Ken Holden, youse editor, flew our Cloud Tramps.  John Eaton took photos.  The delta breezzzzze was blowing so not much else flew.  The Cloud Tramps flew well all thing considered, but Jim's got caught by a tree.  Jim made his Cloud Tramps from driftwood.  Yeah!  Really!  OK, balsa driftwood, a lost life raft to be exact.  Sawed and planed it himself.

The Santa Maria SAMers lost their field and were told that there would be no more flying at Taft.  This will affect lot of folks.  If we were kids of half  a century  ago, we could just move to another ranch with a kid that flew models...

I turned up a SAM 51 member list from better days.  Spouses were also listed for some members.  I think that Jim Kingsley was newsletter editor.  The list is from a time before I joined SAM 51, but not long before, probably early to mid 90's.  Thought you might like to see the old list again.  Enjoy!
