SAM 51 Officers 2013

President – Eut Tileston

Vice President – Bill Fausset

Treasurer – Frank Whalen

Editor – Ken Holden

Cookie Chef - Jim Saare

Webmaster - John Eaton

Hi SAMers:
Following is my latest attempt at a newsletter.  I hate this new improved email editor.  It strips out formatting and does not allow changes, at least that I can find.  I'll keep trying.
Enjoy, Ken in Carmichael

Meeting

The SAM51 monthly meeting will be at Eut’s place on Thursday, August 29, AD 2013, and as usual the 7 PM time

The June Meeting Minutes -
Pres. Eut Tileston called the meeting to order at 7:11 PM with 11 members in attendance, including Bob Metzger from all the way back east.  Guess he wanted to see Rio Linda again, and maybe his family.

Treasury Report - Frank assures us that there is still $642 +/- in the can.

Old Business – Bob Grice reports that the Frank Ehling Half A Postal Challange will be conducted from 21 Sep to 20 Oct 2013 and hosted by SAM 114 (USA), more at

http://www.antiquemodeler.org/  and click on Breaking News.  SAM 2006 1/2A Texaco rules apply (15 min. max, best two of three  flights), etc.

New Business – Lots of new stuff!  Jim Saare was volunteered to be Cookie Monster, er, Chef, in perpetuity or as close as we can come.  He is to be reimbursed from the club treasury (at a very modest rate!)

John Eaton is the new SAM 51 webmaster.  More space for photos using his website:

http://goldeneramodel.com/SAM51/SAM51.html

Show and Tell – Bob English brought the fuselage of his new half A size Viking with electric power.  Another gorgeous model!

John Eaton brought plans from AMA for the 1937 Paul Lindberg Gull Wing later renamed Silver Flyer and kitted.  This is a 6 ft wing span design with functional struts.

Reports - Bob English reported on the June fun fly at  Schmidt Ranch.  Good time was had by all eight attendees, but the breeze was a bit stiff until after the editor left.  The Cloud Tramps flew.  Jim Saare's did not fly into a tree as reported by some unreliable source.

Adjourn-  Yes, but I forget when.

Cookies - Milt Mitchell brought great brownies.  Thanks Milt!  Jim Saare will provide cookies next month, unless we forget.

Model of the Month –  Cessna C34 by Dick Korda, page 24 of  November 1939 Model Airplane News.  Plans at page bottom.

Gossip - Bob Metzger had knee surgery but is recovering faster than one might expect for a guy his age.  SAM flying back east is seeing reducted participation at events also.  Age or gas prices?

July Meeting Minutes

Pres. Eut Tileston called the meeting to order at 7:20 PM with only 8 members in attendance.  We missed those absent.  Probably my fault for not getting out the newsletter (more anon).

 Treasury Report - Alles OK

Old Business – 21 Sep to 20 Oct 2013 Frank Ehling Half A Postal Challange.  Date to be selected at the August meeting.

 New Business – not much

Reports - SAM 30 fun fly had great facilities and breakfast.  10-15 flyers and a few onlookers.  Lemon recievers doung great.

 Show and Tell – Naw

Adjourn-  approximately 7:45 and the real bull session started.

Cookies - by Cookie Chef par excellence, Jim Saare.

Gossip - the newsletter editor hand another interesting month so no July newsletter, but none of that involved flying.  It did cost a lot of moola and was not very enjoyable, but it beat the alternatives.

On a happier note, some news from Fran Womack via SAM 30 newsletter:  SAM 30 Fun Fly had a nice turn out for a relaxed morning of flying.  A bit warm by noon but great weather.  Thanks to guys from 51,21, 27 who turned out.  Special thanks to Warren Pickering and Carl Wortley for lunch.  As always a special thanks to Miriam for her hospitality and facility.  Financially the event was successful, SAM 30 even came out a few bucks ahead.  THANKS GUYS!
