SAM 51 Officers 2013

President – Eut Tileston
Vice President – Bill Fausset
Treasurer – Frank Whalen
Editor – Ken Holden
Cookie Chef - Jim Saare
Webmaster - John Eaton

Meeting
The SAM51 monthly meeting will be Wednesday, December 11 at 1:00 PM at the Wonderful Chinese Restaurant, 7042 Sylvan Rd, Citrus Heights.  The agenda is eating.

 The October Meeting Minutes -

Pres. Eut Tileston called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM, Nov 7 with ten members in attendance.  The previous minutes were approved.

Treasury Report - same ol' $642 in the coffee can we are reliably informed by our treasurer.

Old Business – No results yet posted re the Half A Postal event.  Nice day was enjoyed by all.  Al was getting 7 minute runs with 8x6 prop with enough power to climb in neutral air.  Crash related to waiting until after engine start to turn on receiver (like we did in the old days with 400 mAhr NiCd)

New Business – Discussion of altitude limited club contest.  Any old timer, any size, weight, or power.  Interesting but decided to try more fun flys with focus on events at Schmidt Ranch.

Discussed evolving rules and laws regarding "Drones".  Progress may not be the friend of OT fliers, who seem to be rapidly dwindling in the face of ARFs.

 Reports - None

Show and Tell – Nothing this time.

 Adjourn-  7:45 pm

Cookies - by Cookie Chef par excellence, Jim Saare,  great brownies.

Model of the Month – a rubber powered helicopter designed and flown by Carl Goldberg.  The article and drawings are by Richard Obarski.  The two microfilm propellers are built on blocks 1-!/4 X 7/16 X 14 (and are works of art IMHO).  Power was 20" of 5/64 brown rubber and flying time was in excess of 3 minutes with 5 being potential if the ceiling were high enough

Gossip -  RIP Ellis  Hall.  Obit in the Sacramento Bee follows.
HALL, Ellis D.
Aug. 28, 1927 - Nov. 2, 2013
Age 86. Ellis is survived by Pat Zerr (Ted), Judi Lascheck (Carl), Mary Bratcher (Allen), Jerry Hall (Deni), Richard Hall and Susan Zerr (Bruce). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Ellis was preceded in death by wife Lona and son Bruce. Ellis worked at Aerojet and Lockheed before starting Hall's Upholstery in Sacramento in 1970. Ellis had the great hobby of remote airplanes. He belonged to 20 airplane clubs.

Attached is also a partial index to Model Airplane News from the beginning through December 1942.  The index attempted to catch plans, designers, draftsmen, artist, and authors.  News articles are not indexed (they are slightly out of date also).  The intended method of use is to import into your word process and perform a search.  I know I could have produced an alphabetic list.  I did that for my geophysics papers and found that it is not fun.  It represents many hours of work, mostly plesent but some not.  There errors and typos and a couple of issues were unreadable.  So, Merry Christmas, that is my gift to you and may you use it in good health.  Enjoy!
